An hour from London by train and with the beach on your doorstep, it’s easy to see why people fall in love with Brighton and spend their weekends by the seaside. But when the weekends come so does the city crowds and the prices of everything doubles, even worse still come summer.
So it was settled, a sneaky mid-week break to Brighton was going to happen and where better to stay than on the beachfront at umi Brighton.
After a recent renovation the hotel is now simple and sleek, offering good service, comfortable rooms, and a fantastic location to either spend your days beside the seaside or exploring the arts scene that the city is so famous for.
But my favourite part of the room was above the bed. When I visited they had almost finished a major renovation of the property including installing unique quotes in each of the bedrooms. My quote read:
Destiny is not a matter of chance it is a matter of choice,
it is not a thing to be waited for it is a thing to be achieved.
An inspirational start to the beginning and end of my day.
Within the hotel are a number of features; a luggage room, cafe which is open for breakfast and lunch, the umi bar (above) which is open for happy hour drinks and as a lounge throughout day, the — restaurant adjacent to the hotel, Little Bay, which includes breakfast and Opera themed dinners.
One qualm I had with the property is if you are staying in a room on West Street side. Whilst the room was more spacious than others I had glimpsed and had a sea view, the nightclub across the road, with its pounding dance music and groups of rowdy young adults outside, kept me awake throughout the night.
I also had issues accessing the free WiFi from my room, instead having to go to the lounge to be able to access the service.
Being along the beach front means you have only a short walk to Brighton Pier, vintage shopping in the Laines, exploring the cities famous street art, or getting a custom tour of the city through the free city Greeter program. There’s also plenty of restaurants, bars, and of course the British favourite – Fish ‘n’ Chips – available nearby.
With the beachfront outside your window and the cities laines a short walk away staying at umi Hotel Brighton is an inexpensive but classy option to choose when staying in Brighton on a mid-week break.

If you ever take a trip to Brighton it is well worth checking it out. On the beachfront, simple, and won’t break the bank – perfect!
